Tarik is a Georgetown University police officer who I met last year on campus. I was concerned that the app would be perceived as an anti-police service which could make partnering with police tough. So, I was really excited to hear Tarik’s comments on the product.
His main concerns:
- This tool may drive people to “go out searching” for trouble with the cops. Are you sure you’re not encouraging citizens to be more rebellious against even the law-abiding cops?
- And what about the good cops? The public is currently looking at cops like they’re all bad. How will you make sure the people who use this service understand that good cops still exist? I mean, the public still needs police. You don’t want to completely turn the public off from the understanding that police, when done correctly, is a good thing.
